Poem: “O Summer Rose”

“O Summer Rose”

A paean to love’s youthful bloom (the rose was blooming in my garden):

              O SUMMER ROSE
O summer rose, freshly bloomed,
Dappled with the morning dew.
Bursting forth with the new day’s promise:
Sweet love and innocence incarnate.
Embodiment of all my youthful dreams,
Too soon shall autumn’s breath begin to blow
And Time’s decay bestow a kiss upon each petal,
As one by one they silently drop away,
Until all dreams turn brittle and crumble to dust
And only Love’s bittersweet memory remains.
