“The Jeweller”

“The Jeweller”

The first in a series of poems I am currently writing: the poet as jeweller.

          THE JEWELLER
With knowing, practiced eye,
Each stone is carefully selected
For clarity, brilliance, cut and color.
Then, without haste, with thought and care,
Not haphazardly, without rhyme or reason,
Arranged in the most satisfying design
Until a sparkling elegance has emerged
That catches and delights the eye and mind;
Arrests for a moment both breath and heart beat,
Expressing more than the sum of its parts:
A thing of beauty – a work of art.
