Original Poem: “Sanctuary”

When the storms of life come crashing in, find sanctuary in poetry.
It seems the harder you try to keep the world at bay,
The more it comes crashing headlong into your life;
An intruder who somehow manages to slip past all defenses
To stay like some unwelcome guest who never wants to leave.
Against this ever-encroaching vulgar and brutal world,
Armed only with this pen and a few blank sheets of paper,
I have built, poem by poem, a rampart made of words
And found sanctuary in the dusty tomes of poets past.
