With around 70% of the population of Bamako (capital of Mali) illiterate, ten scribes work on benches outside the main post office writing letters, filling out forms and addressing envelopes. But in the days leading up to Valentine’s, for about $4.00, these scribes use their writing skills penning love poems. See BBC article here with a sample love poem by one of the scribes.
