OUR LIVES BUT FOOTPRINTS IN SAND ARE TRACED
(Villanelle)
By Poetic Meditation

Our lives but footprints in sand are traced.
Fleeting are the days like summer grass
That tomorrow’s waves shall all erase.

Some live their lives as if in a race;
To the finish line of death they dash.
Our lives but footprints in sand are traced.

Others live at a leisurely pace,
Choosing not to do things that are rash
That tomorrow’s waves shall all erase.

Mortality we refuse to face,
Hoping to forever live – alas,
Our lives but footprints in sand are traced.

Eat, drink, be merry may be the case,
Others spend their lives for wealth to amass
That tomorrow’s waves shall all erase.

Intangible are the dreams we chase.
We must free ourselves from this morass.
Our lives but footprints in sand are traced
That tomorrow’s waves shall all erase.
