The Poet Wedded to His Muse?

By PoeticMeditations

The poet married to his Muse?
Preposterous! As some may think.
Familiarity breeds contempt as well as much abuse.
To compose a poem about it is merely a waste of ink.
It will stifle all fun and laughter – all spontaneity;
Kill all the joi de vivre there is by mind-numbing, dull routine.
But is it vital to a poet to have such gaiety?
To be wedded to your Muse? Not as difficult as it seems.
To be truly in love is the key as the wise may know it.
With lots of tender care and devotion, it will grow and bloom
Into love that lives forever in the words of the poet
Long after beauty fades and the body lies cold in the tomb.

About poeticmeditations

A 19th-century romantic poet living in the 21st-century. The Romantic poets, nib pens, candlelight, waistcoats, and pocket watches are a few of my favorite things.
